I have never seen Death Race or had the urge to. Just watching the trailer I knew exactly what it was going to be: action, action, more action, and Jason Statham. Woohoo! Anyways, for some unfathomable reason, they decided to make a Death Race 2, which is releasing on DVD and Blu-ray combo pack January 18, 2011.
The first thing I noticed when I read the announcement was that Jason Statham is not in this movie. In fact, most of the cast was not in the first one. However, upon reading the description, it sort of makes sense. You see, Death Race 2 is a prequel!
The story goes as such: in a not so distant dystopian future, crime has risen exponentially. To contain all the criminals, privately owned prisons started popping up. One of them, Terminal Island, hosts a television show where inmates compete in a brutally violent competition, the winner of which is set free. The lead actor, Luke Goss, is one of these inmates. How exciting!
Sarcasm aside, the DVD comes with six bonus features and the Blu-ray comes with all of those plus eight more and a digital copy of the movie.
